What to do next
Where does the starting amount come from?
A 2021 modified-Delphi panel of 20 clinicians proposed a conservative chronic-pain protocol beginning with 5 mg CBD once daily. This was expert consensus, not a trial proving a universal dose. This planner uses that initial amount as an educational example and does not reproduce automatic titration or recommend adding THC. Read the published protocol and its limitations.
Why not multiply every adult’s weight by a fixed number?
Weight-and-intensity formulas vary between commercial calculators. They do not establish an individual’s effective or safe dose. Our adult starting example is deliberately transparent. The dog pathway uses body weight only with a rate already chosen by a veterinarian.
Important safety information
CBD can cause adverse effects and interact with medicines. A 2025 FDA-supported trial observed liver-enzyme elevations in some healthy adults taking 5 mg/kg/day for four weeks; it does not establish a risk percentage at this planner’s much lower starting example or guarantee that lower doses are safe. What does the dog research actually show?
Studies have tested specific products and doses for particular conditions. A Cornell-led 2018 osteoarthritis study used 2 mg/kg every 12 hours; it was not a universal dosing study for anxiety or all pets. Product composition and veterinary assessment matter. Read the original study.
